Holiday Hazards * Store the Cords - Never give a puppy free run of the house. Curious puppies can electrocute themselves by chewing on electrical cords. Always unplug holiday lights when you go out, even if you think you've effectively segregated your puppy from the decorations. * Toss the Tinsel - Start a new holiday tradition, a tinsel and garland free tree so your dog has no chance of ingesting these dangerous decorations. But if you feel you can't give them up, either close off the room with the tree or place these decorations high up on the tree; well out of your dog's reach. * Stash the Trash - Trash raiding is a common cause of canine pancreatitis and gastroenteritis. Secure your holiday meal scraps in a dog-proof area and don't allow your dog to roam free where it might get into your neighbor's trash. Don't surrender to your dog's begging efforts and give it scraps yourself. If your pooch pleads, offer it a small amount of its normal treats or kibble instead of table scraps. |
