Dog Talk November 2003

Dog Years

Most of us think you add 7 years to every one year of your dog's life. This isn't entirely true.

The first 1-2 years of a dog's life are comparable to human infancy, childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood.

Years 2-8 are approximately comparable to the human ages of 25-50, based on a life span of 12 years.

Small dogs are considered senior citizens at about 12 years of age, while large dogs reach the senior stage at 6-8 years.
